You will find the stop tap for an old property outside, usualy near the front door so water service engineers can access it when you arnt there. Its on the pavement in a normal UK terrace street.
It could bein the front garden usualy under a cover
if you have a cellar it is at the front end up on the wall
no cellar could be under the floor boards in the passage
all houses are different but generally the mains enters the house in the kitchen area, usually under the sink but could be anywhere along that back wall. Try asking a neighbour.

With the old houses there are usually two taps. One is outside, usually under the pavement, the one inside is in the cellar or under the kitchen sink.
