There was a TV prog. on this recently, the points that I recall are: Prices are rising, but still have a way to go. Buying in the right location is important (not in an isolated place). Main areas – Sofia, mountains for skiing, Black Sea resorts. Language is a big problem. If employing local builders, they need to be monitored, as speed and quality of work is questionable……. Maybe an agency is the best way to do it.
*A friend of mine has just bought an unfurnished flat at Burgas, on the coast.
I have a friend who deals with property specifically in Bansko Bulgaria, but i think he has some dealings with sofia as well, his site is http://www.exclusive-international.com he has some articles which will answer your question for sure, hope this helps.
Pro: it will help you financially. Con: it will help bump up Bulgarian property prices to the point where locals can’t buy houses in walking distance of their home towns. Not that you will give a ****.
So many problems with investing in overseas property – if you are a first time buyer you need a home base first unless you are going to live permanently in Bulgaria. Anyway do whatever you want but do not be surprised if you waste your investment or maybe if you take the gamble – it just might be a winner – but its a high risk gamble all the same. Houses in Romania and Bulgaria are not built to the standard of the UK – even Polish houses are not to the standard of UK houses – I have seen the so called Polish builder at work.
Anyway – you get what you pay for most of the time – a £10,000 house in Bulgaria or Romania is a shed compared to a £100,000 house in the UK so if you want a £10,000 shed with a view then the plot may be worth something in a few years time.
