    Very complex area.
The above helped friends of mine who stated they were ‘very good’
An English solicitor has no legal standing in Bulgaria and can not help you

I am not really sure about the rules in Bulgaria for buying a flat but my husband and I bought one in Budapest a few years ago.
The laws are very different then where we live(USA) and I would think also different then in England.
You actually(at least in Hungary) have to hire a lawyer anyways to close the deal because the real estate agents really only show the property, collect their fees and that’s it.they are rather useless with any of the money handling parts.
You may find you must also pay cash for your property since being a foriegner, you will not qualify for a loan. you may have to settle for something that you can buy out of hand rather then your dream place.
There should be many good real estate lawyers in Bulgaria that also speak English. One from England would not do since they wouldn’t have a clue how things went in Bulgaria and their offical papers would be useless in another country.
A word of advice if you do buy a place, just like the other poster stated, you have to watch out for freeloaders moving into the place when you aren’t there and be sure to double check that the property is listed in the property mangement office. We have heard of people stealing property from those not around to keep an eye on their places.
My husband speaks Hungarian and was still surprized how things went when we bought our flat. Our place is empty 6 months per year but we have friends stop by to see if anyone has moved in on us, it is stressful.we also check in every year to property management office to make sure we are still the titled owners.
You may want to think about using a realiable real estate co. to rent out anything you do buy if you are not planning on spending allot of time there. The taxes for owning a rental are very high but you may get some peace of mind.

my advise to you don’t, I know English friends who bought there and Gipsy moved into the apartment while they were away and they couldn’t even enjoy the property they bought and have been through courts to get them out.
Ask for the law overthere and how to protect your property while away.
