The new seaside apartments are good as long as you are aware the holiday season is not that long, there are lots of developments and it is likely that within the next 3 to 5 years your apartment is next to a building site, the view might be obstructed, the beaches will be overcrowded – something that not many Brits will like. But to be honest you can find some cheap ones. As the supply exceeds the current demand, you are likely to be in a strong position to get a good deal.
As for the old houses in the country – they might be very very cheap but will need lots of renovation. You will need to find the right developer/builder who you can trust and so on.
Another aspect is the potential rental – do you want to rent the property out while you are away or not? Think carefully then where you will be more likely to get some income from.
    Good luck

The seaside is overdeveloped and overbuilt; properties are more expensive. The latest trend is that if there is the slightest whiff of a golf course in the air, the prices go up.
Look inland. We live near Shoumen; have a look at our website:

do your research carefully. Look at how easy it is to sell it on if you don’t like it there.

Are you sure you have thought this through? The Bulgarian health care system is rickety at best, third world at worst. What are you going to do when you are old and sick?

Are you REALLY sure? Did you read about the 54 year old British retiree walking her dog in Bulgaria this week? She was mauled to death by a wild pack.
Apparently there are some 35,000 wild dogs roaming the streets of Sofia the capital according to the Daily Telegraph report.
Agree with another answer about their health system. Just don’t get sick and old in Bulgaria. If it’s price that’s pushing you there, it could cost you a lot more later on. There are still a vast array of places in Spain, Portugal, France, Cyprus etc, which will be close on price. Obviously not too many of the brand new variety. More the ‘comfortable’ scenario.
    Good luck whatever your decision…
